When severe Colorado weather strikes, the damage left behind can be extensive. That was exactly the case for this sprawling property on Outlook Drive. Relentless hail had battered the massive metal roof and severely dented the beautiful custom weather vanes of this large outbuilding.
The owners called in B&L Roofing for a full tear-off and replacement. We needed to safely strip the enormous structure down to its bones, install brand-new continuous metal panels, integrate fresh skylights, upgrade the gutter system, and crown the building with stunning new copper weather vanes. Here is a step-by-step look at how our crew tackled this monumental project.
Phase 1: Staging and Tear-Off
A project of this scale requires serious logistics and careful dismantling. We brought in heavy equipment to safely access the expansive roofline and began the arduous process of peeling back the hail-damaged metal.
An aerial overview of the Outlook Drive property. With our Xtreme boom lift parked to the left and vehicles staged, the B&L crew gets ready to tackle the massive roof replacement.
Our crew immediately gets to work, stripping away the old, compromised metal panels section by section to expose the underlying wooden substructure.
Looking down the slope as the old metal is peeled back and folded aside. Working methodically prevents exposing too much of the interior to the unpredictable Colorado weather.
A close-up view of the bare horizontal wooden purlins. Proper inspection of this grid is a crucial step to ensure the framing is structurally sound before laying down the new roof.
Looking up from the eaves, you can clearly see the stripped sections revealing the wooden purlins and the pink insulation tucked safely underneath.
Phase 2: Heavy Lifting and Precision Installation
With the old materials hauled away, the installation of the new tan metal panels began. Because these panels are continuous cuts designed to run seamlessly from ridge to eave, moving them requires serious teamwork.
Teamwork in action: It takes precise balance and coordination for our roofers to haul these incredibly long, single-piece metal panels safely across the roof’s slope.
A B&L Roofing specialist kneels at the edge of the new work, carefully aligning the fresh tan metal panel perfectly square over the exposed wooden purlins.
Striding down the peak! A crew member walks along the freshly secured ridge cap. Notice how cleanly the new translucent skylight panels are integrated flush with the metal.
While part of the team fastens panels in the background, a newly installed lightning rod stands prominent in the foreground, ready to protect the structure during future electrical storms.
Phase 3: The Crown Jewels
One of the most unique aspects of this job was replacing the decorative elements that had been destroyed by the hail. The new custom weather vanes required delicate handling and flawless copper flashing work to ensure the cupolas remained entirely watertight.
The pièce de résistance: a stunning, custom-crafted copper eagle weather vane. Set upon freshly polished copper flashing, it perfectly replaces the original hail-damaged unit.
Looking up the slope from the newly installed panels and skylights toward the finished wooden cupola, now proudly topped with the gleaming copper eagle.

Phase 4: Managing the Runoff
A roof this massive sheds thousands of gallons of water during a heavy rainstorm. To protect the wood siding and foundation of the building, we completely overhauled the property’s gutter system.
We installed a continuous run of high-capacity tan gutters designed to perfectly match the newly installed upper metal wall panels.
A wide view highlighting the extensive, seamless gutter system stretching down the entire length of the building’s wood-paneled exterior.
Details matter. Expertly routed downspouts ensure that heavy runoff is captured and directed safely away from the foundation and walkways.
The Finished Product
After days of hard work, meticulous installation, and careful finishing touches, the Outlook Drive project was complete.
The final result! A fully restored, weather-tight exterior featuring a durable new metal roof, upgraded water management, and majestic copper weather vanes standing tall against the Colorado sky.
At B&L Roofing, we pride ourselves on tackling complex, large-scale projects with an eye for both structural integrity and beautiful design. The Outlook Drive replacement stands as a testament to what our dedicated crew can achieve, transforming severe hail damage into a property that looks better than ever.
